At London Bridge
at London Bridge

This statue of John Keats sits in an alcove reclaimed from the old London Bridge. Keats was born in the City of London in 1795 and trained as an apothecary and surgeon here at Guy’s Hospital before turning to poetry. He died young from tuberculosis, a disease that once claimed countless lives.

Nearby are statues of Lord Nuffield, a great medical benefactor, and a plaque marking the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, who worked here during the Second World War.

To finish your walk, you can continue into the courtyard beyond, with its large plane trees and sustainable planting. Alternatively, retrace your steps back to the Statue of Thomas Guy and visit Science Gallery London (café and toilets inside).
